End-to-end product design and frontend development for a patient portal app used across 14 hospital networks.




THE PROBLEM
Meridian Health's existing patient portal had been built by developers without meaningful design input. It was functional but hostile — dense with clinical terminology, poorly organised for task completion, and effectively inaccessible to users with lower digital literacy or visual impairments. Patient complaints were consistently high and staff were fielding avoidable support queries daily.




THE SOLUTION
We embedded a UX researcher into the project from day one, conducting interviews and usability testing with actual patients across three hospital sites before any design decisions were made. The resulting interface reorganised information around patient goals rather than clinical categories, introduced plain-language summaries alongside technical results, and was built to WCAG 2.1 AA compliance throughout.
